Job Description: JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title Dolphin Youth Facilitator Grade 2A Reports To Dolphin II Project Coordinator Project Dolphin II Location Bengtol, Chirang, with upto 30%time to be spent on travel to project areas WORKING CONTEXT/BACKGROUND the ant is a not for profit agency registered under the Religious & Charitable Trusts Act and has been working on health, education, women’s and children’s rights, income generation, etc. (for more details, please go through www.theant.org and read old annual reports) ever since its inception since the year 2000. It also works and supports other NGOs in the northeast by capacity building programmes and financial support. The region has been characterised by poor economic development, weak governance and insurgency in many of the seven states. the antmakes an attempt to address these issues while working with the communities. Working without prejudice to caste, creed, religion or community, the ant’s work is supported by grants from funding agencies, contributions from individual donors, as well as from the finances generated from development consultancies and capacity building. The project Dolphin funded by an international funding agency, has been founded in the area for the past 2 years, and is posited on the idea of improving the access of children to the rights enshrined in the UN Convention on Child Rights. The32 month project works with children in Government Schools of the area and not just improves numeracy and literacy skills of the younger children but also helps children of middle and higher schools in Science, Maths and English. While focusing on Joyful Learning and inculcating higher social values amongst children, the project also engages with SMCs and village level child protection committees to improve the plight of children of such backward areas. It also engages with youth in getting ready for their adult roles, by facilitating information JOB SUMMARY This is a full-time Youth Facilitator position based in Bengtol, Chirang. The purpose of the position is to: • Provide guidance to the youth of the project area. • Work closely with other project staff to ensure harmonious progression of children from elementary schools. • Assist the Project Coordinator in not just being responsible for all youth-related activities in the project but also keeping oneself aware of the project activities enough to be able to substitute her/him for short periods of absence. • Planning, Establishing, and Ensuringeffective running of the Youth Information Centre in terms of impact and timeliness. • Identifying available and feasibly career choices that young people get aware of and building their capacity to grab the opportunities that come their way. • Helping youth to federate and build and sustain campaigns to demand better life-choices for themselves. ROLE DESCRIPTION EXPECTED END RESULTS Effective Management of Youth Information Centre Youth must see the YIC as a must-go place where there are others like them, where they get credible and relevant information that they would be needing in this crucial age. • Expected to provide relevant and credible information, the YIC needs to be established early enough in the programme with equipment and facilities. • Set up computer and internet access alongside books/ periodicals and facilitate the youth of the area to demand, manage and utilisethe information that has been arranged for their easy digestion by the younger children • Print leaflets, booklets and banners to make them available inside the YIC and to adolescent children that can help young people choose a career with job security, dignity and ethics • Follow through on agreed actions Capacity Building Holding training programmes that will equip the young to take on the big, bad world. • Identifying training and capacity building needs of the youth • Selecting good Resource Persons who may not just train the youth trainees, but also motivate them not to shy away from work. • Organising workshops and facilitating exchange workshops with civil society groups to make them practically aware of the career choices. Networking and advocacy Developing and sustaining work relationship with internal/external stakeholders of the ant • Establish a good rapport with the identified stakeholders and keep them informed besides seeking their advice • Network with the CBOs like ABSU, AAMSU to understand the requirements of youth and the kind of interventions that we propose. • Remain in close touch with other staff of the antby not only helping them with their work but also try to complement each other’s work • Establish adequate referral linkages of project target groups with appropriate service providers, and other stakeholders • Federate the youth groups at Bengtol level for more effective campaigns and advocacy. Documentation and Reporting • Plan MIS to ensure regular maintenance of records necessary to track activities, outputs and outcomes. • Monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, annual and other program and financial reports prepared and in place and documented in time aligning with project design and donor requirement. • Develop the first draft of reports of relevant youth activities as and when required by the PC Professional/Personal Development • Attend training and workshops from time to time and practice learnings at work contributing to better outcomes of the project/programme • Take initiative in proposing professional/personal development and responsible to practice learning from any given training/workshop/study attended at work contributing to better outcomes of the project Others Anything else requested by the ED to enhancethe quality of programming for the ant. Education Knowledge and Skills Experience Essential requirements Full time Bachelors degree in Science/ Arts or Honours in any relevant discipline • Demonstrated depth of experience and effectiveness in an NGO context in working with community/grassroots people and organizations would be preferable • Experience in doing training, facilitation and capacity building and project management • Good knowledge and understanding about govt. strategies, policies and guidelines • Good interpersonal, communication and presentation skills • Good conversational level in Bodo and Assamese languages • Basic knowledge of Computers and of Windows/ Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel • At least 1 year professional experience with demonstrated skills in working with and leading youth
