Job Description: JOB DESCRIPTION Position: Development Associate (Learning & Evaluation) Grade/Level II B Project/Unit IDeA and LAMP Cell, the ant. Reports to: Chief Executive through Programme Leader LAMP Cell Location: Rowmari, Dist:Chirang Assam. Engagement Duration Upto 31st March 2019 Background of Role the ant has decided to enhance its footprint in the development sector of the northeast. It is planning to formalize and document the experiences that help shape its understanding of development, so that it and others may learn from its successes and failures in order to enhance the pace of development of the northeast part of India through the strengthening of the voluntary or civil society sector. The Institute of Development Action (IDeA) bridges the moorings of the ant in its grassroots work with its intentions of building the capacity of other civil society actors working in the sphere of development. Job Summary The Development Associate (Learning & Evaluation) will assist the Chief Executive of the ant in overseeing the evaluation of quantitative and qualitative aspects of various developmental projects within the ant. S/he will plan the collection, collation and analysis of data from the field and prepare reports that may be used for dissemination and learning purposes within and without the ant. Contract/Key Relationships The Development Associate (Learning & Evaluation) will report to the Chief Executive of the ant and shall work in close liaison with the Programme Leader and members of the LAMP Cell Key Responsibilities ? Devise plan for periodic evaluation, learning and dissemination of data for all projects. ? Designing studies and strategies to collect data that is objective and authentic. ? Collection, collation and analysis of data. ? Preparation of research tools including overseeing their translation into local languages wherever required. ? Mentoring field staff to collect, tabulate and analyse data and to disseminate with the community. ? Be part of the Learning, Analysis & Mentoring Project Cell to shoulder the responsibility of designing and analyse MIS to be able to monitor the project quantitatively and qualitatively. ? Work closely with other members of the ant to inculcate an understanding and a spirit of independent inquiry as an essential component of development. ? Organize dip-stick studies to develop or confirm hypothesis in order to plan or improve development projects. ? Respond to specific requests from the Progamme team in order to study the relevance or otherwise of specific interventions. ? Develop documents, training feedbacks, evaluation and similar training related documents and tools of assessment. ? Preparation of project proposals, periodic reports and Evaluation reports from time to time. ? Conversion of training processes and process documentation to a format that may be seen as modules for training or use by other NGOs. ? This position would require approximate 30 % of time to travel to project areas Qualification & Experience Essential: I. Masters in Social Work/ Social Sciences/ Psychology/ Epidemiology from a reputed college with 3 to 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in working with grassroots NGOs/ organizations. II. Experience should include project conceptualization, writing and of concurrent monitoring and evaluation of projects. III. Woman preferred. Preferred: i. Familiarity with concepts and practice of development projects ii. Demonstrated experience in leading development and community engagement iii. Working familiarity with developing research tools, management information systems, handling databases and analytical methods including software. Skills & Competencies i. Demonstrated ability to understand social work concepts, development strategies and to translate them into action ii. Ability to design research tools for qualitative and quantitative research. iii. Demonstrated ability to objectively analyze data and have an eye for detail iv. Proven ability to conceptualize, analyze, innovate, plan, write and execute ideas, as well as impart knowledge and skills to other members of the team. v. Good interpersonal, communication and presentation skills vi. Demonstrated learning agility, pro-activeness and openness to embrace new technologies at work vii. Ability to be in the field in seemingly tough conditions to gather first hand information. viii. Ability to function effectively as a team member and respect diversity in a team ix. Fluency in English and willingness to understand local working language of the communities is essential. x. Proficiency in using Windows and MS Office for preparation of documents with pictures and graphs.
