One self financed or two govt. sponsored short-term courses offered. Two experiments or computational projects added to teaching laboratories where appropriate.One or more patents; Supervising one or more students for Ph.D, strong liaison with industry, offering courses through application of ICT.

10 years after Ph.D. or 13 years (not counting Ph.D. enrollment period) total out of which 7 years to be after Ph.D. including 3 years at Associate Professor level.Two Ph.D.s guided in career as sole or principal supervisor, plus one ongoing. The following during the past 4 years: (i) 3 papers in SCI journals; (ii) One high value sponsored or consultancy project; (iii) Two self financed or four Govt. sponsored short term courses as coordinator and main teacher; (iv) Two experiments or computational design projects added to teaching laboratories where appropriate.One or more Patents; Supervised more than three students for Ph.D.; Preparing E-Learning  Material. At least one self-financed short-term course offered every year. Strong liaison with industry. Offering significant support institute management; High value sponsored or consultancy projects.


NB: Candidates from industry without Ph.D. degree with substantial professional and R & D experience, and with good number (say 10) of publications in leading journals, wherein candidates being the lead author, may also apply.


(I)   Scale of Pay (Revised):   (i)  For Professor   : Rs. 37,400-67,000+AGP 10,000/-

                                       (ii)  For Associate Professor : Rs. 37,400-67,000+AGP 9,000/-

                                      (iii)  For Assistant Professor : Rs. 15,600-39,100+AGP 6,000/


(II)    Reservations : Reservation will be as per Govt. of India norms for SC/ST/OBC/PWD.


(III)    Application  Fee of  Rs. 300/- (for general & OBC)  and Rs. 150/-  (for SC/ST/PWD) in the

Academic reimbursements and incentives:

In addition to normal pay and allowances as applicable to the central Govt. employees stationed at Silchar, following additional incentives are also available to the faculty members:-

1.  Full funding for attending national conference either for presenting a paper or chairing session as per Institute guidelines.

2.  Financial assistance up to Rs. 3.00 lakhs in 3 years under Professional Development Fund.

3.  Reimbursement of telephone charges up to Rs.750/- per month.



General conditions :


(i)  The Institute reserves the right to cancel the recruitment without assigning any reason. (ii) The prescribed qualification and experience are minimum and the mere possession of the same does not entitle candidates to be called for interview. (iii) No correspondence will be entertained with the candidates, who are not called for interview/selected for appointment. (iv) Canvassing in any form will result in disqualification of candidature. (v) Legal disputes, if any, with NIT, Silchar,  will be restricted within the jurisdiction of Silchar Court only.  (vi) Complete application form shall be submitted to the Registrar, NIT, Silchar – 788010, Assam.  (vii) All reserved category candidates shall be required to submit attested copies of the latest Caste certificate issued by competent authority.  Similarly, PWD candidates shall be required to submit proof of physical disability certificate from competent medical authority.  (viii) The applications of the candidates, who have applied against advt no. 01/12 (faculty) under special recruitment drive, will be considered for these posts also. However, they may submit any additions and updates to qualification/experience, if any.
